Setterwalls welcomes patent law expert Claes Almberg who, with his exclusive experience and expertise, further consolidates Setterwalls’ leading position in the field of patent disputes and patent litigation. Claes is coming to Setterwalls from the Swedish Ministry of Justice, where he for nearly ten years was the government’s patent law expert in charge of legislation and international negotiations. His main focus then was the unitary patent reform and, in recent years, Brexit concerning British participation therein. In parallel, the modernization of the Swedish patent legislation was also a major part of his portfolio.
Claes Almberg has a solid background including being an experienced judge having worked in both instances of Sweden’s exclusively competent intellectual property (IP) courts while specializing in patent law. Particularly exciting is that he for many years was deeply involved in the building of the new unitary patent system (Unitary Patents, UP, and the Unified Patent Court, UPC) thus that he possesses unique knowledge and insights from the negotiations, preparations and implementation at European and national level.
– I look forward to contributing to Setterwalls’ competent IP team, which is at the forefront in patent disputes and patent litigation on the Swedish market. Provided that the unitary patent system enters into force, which we strongly believe, the market for patent litigation will change at all levels, and Setterwalls is well positioned for such future, says Claes Almberg.
– The recruitment of Claes must be seen as unique and an opportunity that we simply could not miss. The experience Claes brings from both his time as a judge and the legislative work adds a lot: deep expert knowledge and a different perspective, says Per Lidman, Managing Partner at Setterwalls’ Malmö office - where patent litigation is an important part of the business.
We extend a warm welcome to Claes Almberg to Setterwalls in Malmö!
