Setterwalls\u2019 has previously reported on this directive, for example <a href=\"https:\/\/setterwalls.se\/artikel\/the-green-claims-directive-new-rules-regarding-environmental-claims\/\">here<\/a>. However, during a press briefing on 20 June 2025, the European Commission announced its intention to withdraw the proposed Green Claims Directive. This after the political groups EPP and ECR asked the European Commission to withdraw the proposal.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At this stage the Commission has only indicated that it will provide further information on the next steps but has not yet offered any additional details on the withdrawal process.<\/p>\n<p>It is important to note that any withdrawal of the proposed Green Claims Directive will not affect current marketing rules. Further, in March 2024, the EU rules to empower consumers for the green transition entered into force and shall apply from 27 September 2026. According to these rules (the Green Transition Directive) vague environmental claims will be prohibited if they cannot be demonstrated. Also these rules will remain in effect regardless of the withdrawal of the current proposal for the Green Claims Directive.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the Commission has so far only stated its intention to withdraw the proposal.
