Covid-19: Setterwalls assist pro bono in alleviating Swedish courts’ caseload in hybrid arbitration initiative
As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, Swedish courts have been forced to postpone main hearings in commercial disputes. Setterwalls have therefore decided to contribute in alleviating Swedish courts’ caseload and help companies get access to justice in these challenging times by assisting pro bono in the administration of the procedure in the newly established Swedish Hybrid Arbitration Initiative.
In short, parties in commercial disputes before Swedish courts whose main hearing have recently been cancelled or postponed will be offered the possibility of, at a reasonably low cost, settle the dispute in arbitration. A council consisting of Setterwalls dispute resolution partner Johannes Ericson, the former chairman of the Swedish Supreme Court, Stefan Lindskog, the chairman of the Swedish Bar Association Christer Danielsson and partner Olle Flygt at Mannheimer Swartling will decide which disputes are suitable to enter into the hybrid arbitration procedure. Setterwalls will, at no cost for the parties involved, administer the hybrid arbitration procedure.
The purpose of the initiative is to help alleviate Swedish courts’ caseload and assist parties in getting access to justice in these extraordinary times.
