Senior Associate, Member of the Swedish Bar Association

Profile

My main field of work is to provide clients with advice and service regarding ongoing or impending disputes.

Through my background as a judge in the district courts and the court of appeal (I was appointed associate judge at the Scania and Blekinge court of appeal in 2019, prior to which I worked as a junior judge and acting associate judge) followed by several years of handling of commercial disputes as a lawyer at Setterwalls, I have gained specialist skills in litigation and other types of dispute resolution. From working as a judge, I have also gained special insight into the administrative procedures of the Swedish courts and I understand how judges typically reason when making legal assessments. This is oftentimes helps me to make an accurate assessment of the likely outcome of legal proceedings.

I handle disputes across many different industries and areas of law and often with international connections. My work, which is always based on the needs of the clients, includes (among other things):

  • Making strategical, legal and commercial assessments of which courses of action best benefit the clients when there are ongoing or impending disputes;
  • Presenting or defending clients against claims outside of formal proceedings;
  • Taking measures to avoid disputes escalating to the detriment of the clients;
  • Negotiating constructive solutions or settlements with opposing parties when it is in the best interests of the clients; and
  • Representing clients as counsel in litigation and arbitration.

In addition to dispute resolution, I also assist our clients in contract negotiations and with drafting of various kinds of commercial agreements, including but not limited to sales agreements, supply agreements, distribution agreements and service agreements.

Many commercial disputes are based on alleged or established breaches of contract. Legal advisors who work with dispute resolution should therefore have good knowledge of commercial agreements. And vice versa: Legal advisors who negotiate and draft commercial agreements should be competent in dispute resolution to be able to anticipate and prevent future problems. It is therefore a matter of course for me to give advice from both perspectives.
