To meet the continuing high demand for international dispute resolution, Setterwalls has recruited Per Runeland from SJ Berwin in London. From 2 July 2012 he will be Senior Counsel at the Stockholm office.

–   Per Runeland is a renowned dispute resolution lawyer with a focus on international arbitration. His long experience and global network will further strengthen Setterwalls’ position as one of the leading firms in commercial dispute resolution, says Joakim Edoff, Executive Partner of Setterwalls. Recently Setterwalls has made a number of strategic lateral hires due to the increased demand for the firm’s services. We are now very glad to be able include Per amongst them, continues Joakim.

Per Runeland has worked in London for 30 years. He headed up Lagerlöf & Leman’s London office from the start in 1984 and was later recruited by Kilpatrick Stockton in 1997 to start their European arbitration practice. Since 2005, Per has worked at SJ Berwin’s International Arbitration Group. He has specialised in international arbitration for 20 years and has key expertise in disputes with parties from Russia and other former Soviet states. He has frequently been appointed as chairman or arbitrator in disputes before the London Court of International Arbitration, the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, The International Commercial Arbitration Courts in Moscow and Kiev, the Arbitration Court of the International Chamber of Commerce, Vienna’s Arbitral Centre and arbitral panels in Switzerland, Germany and Austria.

–  During my entire career, Setterwalls has been a leading firm in arbitration. Setterwalls’ focus on maritime law gave the firm an early position as one of Sweden’s leading firms in international dispute resolution, and the arbitration practice has grown strongly in recent years, says Per Runeland. I cannot think of a more inspiring environment for my commercial arbitration practice, which is complemented by Setterwalls’ long experience of investment disputes.

Dispute resolution is one of Setterwalls’ largest practice areas. The litigation group consists of 35 lawyers specialised in commercial conflict management through litigation, arbitration or mediation. Working with experts from Setterwalls’ other practice groups, the team is able to offer a complete solution for everything from risk management and strategic planning through to managing all manner of commercial disputes in Sweden and abroad, in all industries, with the aim of finding sound commercial solutions.
